Descriptions:
This is an exquisite one of a kind hand-carved wooden mermaid statue. This sculpture depicts a gentle and elegant mermaid, swimming amongst underwater seaweed.
Carved entirely on a single piece of wood, this spectacular wood sculpture will be sure to add accent to your exotic home decoration. The workmanship is excellent with every details you can imagine - strings of hair, individually distinct scales, to the almost perfect body proportion. This is definitely a must have for any mermaid collections because it's specially designed and uniquely carved for our special collections only.
Mermaid stories are widely told and shared, and almost know no geographical boundaries. The mermaid story first appeared in Assyria, a region on the Upper Tigris river, named for its original capital, the city of Asshur (or Ashshur) around 1000 BC. The story started with Atargatis, the mother of legendary Assyrian queen Semiramis, was a goddess who loved a mortal shepherd and in the process killed him. Ashamed, she jumped into a lake to take the form of a fish, but the waters would not conceal her divine nature. Thereafter, she took the form of a mermaid - human above the waist, fish below, though the earliest representations of Atargatis showed her as being a fish with a human head and legs, similar to the Babylonian Ea, precursor of the Biblical Noah. The Greeks recognized Atargatis under the name Derketo, where she was often conflated with Aphrodite. This one of a kind wood carving captures the beauty and the ever lasting story about mermaids. In this depiction, she floats and swims elegantly around some flowers and underwater plants while being accompanied by 3 fishes. The carving quality is absolutely gorgeous.
This masterpiece is carved entirely from a single block of wood to maintain the sculpture's integrity and quality. The wood is very dense and heavy, ensuring the highest quality finished a wood sculpture can afford.
This sculpture looks great as an entrance greeting statue, by the staircase, office center piece, etc. It also looks wonderful on a shelf, desk, dresser, or coffee table. You will love the quality of the carvings as well as the remarkably shiny smooth polished and dark stains to reduce chances of cracking. The beautiful fine grain are also clearly visible through the stains to further accentuate this spectacular masterpiece.
